THE LONDON CHRONICLE, London, April 2, 1774 An inside page has a lengthy document headed: "To The King's Most Excellent Majesty" which begins: "I have paid some attention to a whole squadron of rhetorical arguments relative to the present dispute between Great Britain & her charter colonies in America…" setting the tone for the remainder of this article, taking over two-thirds of the page (see). Terrific reading.
A back page item relating to the Boston Port Bill includes some great rhetoric: "...You may reduce their cities to ashes, but the flame of liberty in North America shall not be extinguished. Cruelty & oppression and revenge shall only serve as oil to increase the fire. A great country of hardy peasants is not to be subdued. In the grave which we did for the inhabitants of Boston...to punish the rebels of Massachusetts no other expedient is left us but that of blocking up their principal port..." with more (see).
