October 01, 1787
CONNECTICUT COURANT, Hartford, Oct. 1, 1787. Here is one of the more historic and desirable newspapers to be had on the creation of the government of the United States. Contained in its entirely on pages 2 & 3 is the complete printing of the Constitution of the United States, which had just recently been approved by the Constitutional Convention for approval and ratification by the various states. This is a contemporary printing of the U.S. Constitution!! Some years ago the Penna. Packet newspaper dated less than 2 weeks earlier sold for $110,000 in auction. This issue is not in that league but contains the same historically significant content and would be a cornerstone issue for any serious collection of Americana, and more specifically, any collection of political or legal documents. The issue is complete with all 4 pages. There are some archival mends--done by a professional archivist--at the margins. I show in the photos below any that are more obvious. In general the issue is in very nice, clean condition. Be in touch if you have any specific concerns. The issue comes with a Certificate of Authenticity as shown in the photo. The issue, in its "closed" position showing just the front page, measures about 10 1/2 by 16 1/2 inches. A very rare opportunity as seldom does such a significant piece of Americana find its way on the open market.
