August 26, 1780
PENNSYLVANIA PACKET OR THE GENERAL ADVERTISER, Philadelphia, Aug. 26, 1780  A well-known title that has very ornate lettering and a small engraving of a ship in the masthead.
Notable content in this issue includes a ftpg. notice offering a "Four Hundred Dollars" reward for the apprehension of a runaway "Negro man named James".
A pg. 3 report under "Philadelphia" mentions an "elegant entertainment" given by the Chevalier de la Luzerne to the Congress. Lists of the toasts that were given, including one for George Washington.
Pg. 3 also has several resolutions passed by Congress "...to prevent the destruction, waste, embezzlement and misapplication of the public stores and provisions, upon which the existence of the armies of these United States may depend..." The resolutions are signed in type: Charles Thomson. Also an ad: "TO BE SOLD, A Stout healthy Negro Man...", plus a notice placed by Charles Wilson Peale informing the public that he just finished a "Mezotino Print, in poster size", of Gen. Washington.
Ink is a bit lite in a few places in the ornate lettering of the masthead, small area of lite foxing in the runaway ad on the ftpg. Untrimmed.
