THE LOWER CALIFORNIAN, Magdalena, Lower California., Nov. 10, 1870
Here is a volume I issue (number 2) of a very uncommon title (photo shows the nice masthead) from Lower California, more commonly known as Baja California. Content includes pg. 2 report under "The Expedition" which begins: "The Expedition fitted out for the expedition and colonization of the lands of Lower California Company...proceeded to Todos Santos..." with much more about the itinerary as well as various observations about the terrain, wildlife, etc.
Other reports include: "Advantages To Settlers Which Lower California Offers" "Coast Survey Of Lower California" and an extract of a report: "Plains Of Magdalena".
The back page has a 10 by 3 inch map of the region, and an ad placed by the Lower California Company: "Free Land! Free Trade! No Fences Necessary!" and details.
The issue measures 11 1/4 by 8 inches and is complete in 4 pages. Lite rubbing on the front page. Archival tissue overlay on one side (front and last page), which is only noticeable at the edges. A very unique issue!
