August 03, 1921
TIMES-PICAYUNE, New Orleans, Aug. 3, 1921 This is a very nice report on of the major scandals in baseball history, where players for the Chicago White Sox were accused of throwing the 1919 World Series.
Front page two line, 2 col. head: "White Sox Acquitted, Others Also Go Free" & subhead: "Judge Friend Smiles, Hundreds Cheer, Bailiffs Join in Wild Scenes of Disorder as Jurors Lift Cleaned Players To Shoulders".
This newspaper lists the names of all the defendants and describes the scene in the court room, with details about the verdict, and mention that there were "...shouts of hooray for the clean sox".
The excitement would be short-lived because the next day Judge Landis, the Commissioner of Baseball, would ban all eight players from baseball for life.
Lite rubbing along the fold, otherwise in good condition. This is the complete newspaper.
