April 16, 1692
THE ATHENIAN MERCURY by John Dunton from London, England, dated April
16, 1692. This was a fine gentlemen's newspaper which was very popular
in the coffeehouses of early England. Interesting reading on a wide
range of topics & one of the earliest periodicals in English.
Partially in question/answer format including: "Whether the Reformed
Churches beyond Sea do not all make use of a Form of Prayer, or which
of them does not? and whether do they approve of the Liturgy of the
Churches of England". This newspaper was published before any American
newspapers even existed. A singlesheet newspaper printed on both sides
(typical for the period), measuring about 7 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches. Very
nice, clean condition printed on high-quality, cloth-based newsprint.
