June 08, 1775
THE PENNSYLVANIA EVENING POST, Philadelphia, June 8, 1775 The is the front leaf only of a two leaf (4 page) newspaper so its value is compromised yet still quite displayable and with with good front page content. The front page does have some content relating to the American Revolutionary War, with items including: "It is with the utmost astonishment that I find any of my subjects capable of encouraging the rebellious disposition which unhappily exists in some of my colonies in North America...the plan of military operations projected against the Americans is said to be this: General Gage is to continue chief in comand; the head quarters to be at Boston; detached parties of 2000 men each commanded respectively by the Generals Clinton, Howe, & Burgoyne are to be sent to Virginia & such of the provinces as are deemed the most refractory..." and more relating to America (see photos). And there is more on the back page, including: "Yesterday the Generals Howe, Clinton & Burgoyne took leave of his Majesty & on Saturday they will set out for Portsmought to embark...for their respective commands in North America." and a few smaller tidbits. Some loss near the top of the blank spine margin causes no loss of text, otherwise in very nice condition. Measures about 7 1/2 by 10 inches. Rare to find Philadelphia newspapers from during the Revolutionary War.
