NEW-YORK DAILY TRIBUNE, March 1, 1844 On page 2 under The Catastrophe at Washington is a report about the explosion of a large gun aboard the Princeton while on a cruise down the Potomac. On the cruise was a party of dignitaries, including President Tyler. Describes the horrific scene after the explosion which resulted in the deaths of two cabinet members and the future father-in-law of the President. Also an editorial about this event.
