June 03, 1941
THE NORWICH SUN, New York, June 3, 1941 See the inset for the page 6 report regarding the death of baseball star Lou Gehrig, who earned the nickname the Iron Horse because he played in 2,130 consecutive games. In the report it states that Gehrig died from a rare disease: "...that everyone except he himself believed incurable....The disease which erased Gehrig from the lineup of the mighty Yankees on May 2, 1939, was diagnosed as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis...". Has details about his stellar career and admirable qualities as a player and an individual. Somewhat uncommon to have a photo, even a small one, with a report of Gehrig's death. Issue is trimmed close at the spine causing minor unrelated loss, slightly browned at the edges, otherwise in good condition.
