CONNECTICUT COURANT, Hartford, January 11, 1814 The front page of this issue has a report bout the decisive defeat of Napoleon by the allied forces in the historic Battle of the Nations at Leipzig. Hereafter is a detailed account of the battle, signed in type by British general, Charles Stewart.
There is a second report from General Stewart which provides additional particulars about the battle, and concludes on pg. 2. This overwhelming defeat severely compromised the frontiers of the rapidly declining French empire and ultimately led to Napoleons exit from power. Several interesting advertisements as well.
Area of moderately heavy foxing in the upper half with some in the mentioned content, lite rubbing along the fold causes three small holes affecting a few words in the first account, with several other words affected by the rubbing, has some lite staining in this text as well, occasional dirtiness in the margin, occasional foxing. Fine reporting on what might be considered Napoleons second worst defeat, and great to have it on the front page! Untrimmed.
wikipedia notes: The Battle of Leipzig (German: Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig) or Battle of the Nations, fought on 16–19 October, 1813, was one of the most decisive defeats suffered by Napoleon Bonaparte. The Battle of Leipzig was fought on German soil and involved German troops on both sides, as a large proportion of Napoleon's troops actually came from the German Confederation of the Rhine. It is considered the largest battle in Europe before World War I, with over 500,000 troops involved.
