April 11, 1812
COLUMBIAN CENTINEL, Boston, April 11, 1812 Page 2 has some great content concerning the Embargo, including a short statement signed by the President in which he requests that the "General Embargo" be enacted for 60 days (see), and this is followed by an item headed: "Embargo Law" which gives some details about an embargo, and then this is followed by the actual text of the Act itself, headed: "Embargo Law" and with the preface: "Yesterday we received several copies of the Embargo Law which passed Congress & was approved by the President on Saturday last. The following is the Law:.." and this is followed by: "An Act Laying an EMBARGO on all ships & vessels in the ports & harbors of the United States for a limited time." and what follows is the full text of the Act, signed in type by James Madison and dated April 4, 1812 (see photos). Another related item on pg. 2 is headed: "Embargo Affairs".
Complete in 4 pages, water staining in the upper left quadrant which fortunately only touches about 6 words in all the Embargo content mentioned above. Otherwise minor wear at the margins and some light foxing or dirtiness. A very significant item on American history.
