March 22, 1879
SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, New York, March 22, 1879.
* Thomas Edison
* Work on his electric light
Two facing pages in this issue have great text regarding Thomas Edison's work on his electric light. One article is headed: "The Edison Electric Light" which has considerable detail, carrying over to the following page, and includes a half page print captioned: "Edison's New Electric Light Apparatus".
The facing page has a curious article headed: "New Electric Lamp" which includes two illustrations and a letter by a man who seems to claim Edison copied from his experiment, however this man never filed for a patent (see photos).
Do note that this is not the historic invention for which he would become famous, but is one of the experiments which lead to his creation of the first successful electric light which would happen just a few months later on October 22, 1879.
And the same page has a smaller article headed: "Edison's Electric Light" which includes a small print as well (see).
A terrific issue on Edison's work towards this very significant invention. Complete in 16 pgs., never bound nor trimmed, small library stamp at the top of page 1, nice condition.
