NEW-HAMPSHIRE PATRIOT & STATE GAZETTE, Concord, Aug. 29, 1820.
* Missouri Constitution
The 3rd page of this issue has an exciting and historic report about the Constitution of the State of Missouri. The report, datelined St. Louis, Missouri, July 19, begins by stating that
* The important instrument, the Constitution, was finished on the 17th of July, engrossed on parchment the next day, and was to be signed in the afternoon of the same day. Of particular interest is mention that the document was ordered to be printed in English and French. Says that a national salute fired by the St. Louis Guards will signal ...the time of its signature.
The report also states that the permanent seat of government will be located on the Missouri River, near the mouth of the Osage, but ...for the present it remains at St. Louis. The report concludes by stating that Missouriopolis was suggested as the name for the seat of government. A nice report about the establishment of the state of Missouri.
Other news of the day with advertisements. Has stray writing above the masthead and a small narrow piece missing at the spine, a few traces of foxing, otherwise in good condition.
