June 13, 1861
LOUISVILLE DAILY COURIER, Louisville, Ky., June 15, 1861  During the Civil War Louisville was mostly a Yankee-held city, but it was under Confederate control from the outbreak of the Civil War until mid-September, 1861, meaning it was a Confederate town for just five months. Rare to find issues from this narrow "Confederate window" but here is one.
There are many war-related reports on the front page including those headed: "The Grand Army at Cairo" "Secession in Illinois" "The Death of Young Redford" "Gen. Schenck's Brigade--The Foreign Powers not to Recognize Secession..." "Reconnoitering the Mississippi--taking down the Secession Flag at Columbus...Arrivals of Rebels at Union City" "The Battle at Great Bethel--Further Details of the Fight--The Federal Loss Over 400 in Killed & Wounded--The Confederates Loss Only 213 or 15--Col. J. B. Magruder in Command of the Battery" "Gen. Beauregard's Proclamation" which is signed by him: G. T. Beauregard, and begins: "A reckless and unprincipled tyrant has invaded your soil. Abraham Lincoln, regardless of all moral, legal & constitutional restraints, has thrown his abolition hosts among you..." with more (see". Other heads as well.  There are additional war reports on pgs. 2, 3 & 4 as well, a few including; "Aaron Harding's Position--the Tricks of the Lincolnites" "Another Engagement!" "30,000 Federals To Invest Harper's Ferry!" "More Rebel Batteries!" and more. There are also many ads on pgs. 3 & 4 as well. This issue is archivally rejoined at the spine, some small  binding holes in the left margin, otherwise in very nice & clean condition. Four pgs., large folio size.
