EUROPEAN MAGAZINE, & LONDON REVIEW, July, 1788  Certainly one of the more rare 18th century British magazines, similar to Gentleman's Magazine with articles within including: "Description of the White Mountains in New Hampshire, By the Rev. Jeremy Belknap", "Directions on the Reading of History, Written in America"& a: "Letter concerning Chimnies: Containing some Directions to Prevent them from Smoking. Addressed to Dr. Franklin, by Dr. Ruston." There is a brief report about a terrible fire at New Orleans that destroyed 936 houses. There is also mention of the states that accepted the new Constitution (N.J., Del., Ga., Pa., Ct., & Mass.).
This magazine also still includes two full page engravings, one being: "A View of a Mosque at Chunar Gur" in India, and the other a nice engraving of: "John O'Keefe, Esq." (see photos).
But perhaps the greatest feature to this issue is not the content but the original blue outer wrappers which are still attached--very rarely found. There are two cover leaves at both the front & the back with the cover containing a nice engraving (see photos). Measures 5 1/2 by 8 in., complete 80 pgs., with some stray period writing at the top of the front wrapper. Great condition.
