July 16, 1876
THE SALT LAKE DAILY TRIBUNE, Utah Territory, July 16, 1876
* General George Custer massacre aftermath
* Sioux Indians
The front page has three-quarters of a full column headed: "THE INDIAN WAR" "Terry Waiting Reinforcements at Fetterman" "The Indians Harassing the Troops & Waiting at Attack" "A Refugee Gold Hunter Tells How He Saved His Scalp" with subheads including: "Don't Comprehend the Magnitude of the Reds" "Reinforcements for Terry" & "From Terry's Command".
There is reference to the Custer massacre, including: "...there are certainly 5000 to 7000 Indians who can & will fight until subdued & the fate of Custer should be a warning that they intend to make thorough work & have confidence in their ability to do it...".
Better yet is the great back page article taking 1 1/2 columns headed: "Custer's Slaughter" "Refutation of False Charges--The Brave Officer Obeys His Written Instructions" which goes into considerable detail (photos show only portions).
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice condition.
