Page 2 obituary reads, in part: "Died--In the Osage country. Whitehair, the principal chief of the Osage tribe of Indians. His death was unexpected....Upwards of 100 Osages arrived at St. Louis...relative to the death of Whitehair. They are of the opinion that something supernatural occasioned his death; and that they must kill one of the Paune nation to appease his manes."
