November 23, 1780
THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, Nov. 23, 1780.
* Benedict Arnold's treason
* Revolutionary War original from the enemy
An inside page has a report concerning a treaty between the United States and the Netherlands, with mention of Ben Franklin.
But the best item in this issue is the back pg. report from an: "Extract of a Letter from New York" which includes:
* Arnold's desertion is a most severe blow to the rebels. It has diffused jealousy & distrust universally through their army...three of their general & two members of Congress are already in confinement on suspicion of being his accessories. He was very popular; his example will therefore influence many...great numbers of deserters are daily coming in. No man among the rebels, not even Washington himself, had a more intimate or extensive knowledge of their affairs than Arnold...
and a bit more (see photos).
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/2 in., rubbing to the front page causes 3 tiny holes, dirtiness to the front page also. The balance of the issue is very nice.
