March 12, 1959
THE HONOLULU ADVERTISER, Hawaii, March 12, 1959 The large & bold banner head across the very top of the front page says it all: "STATEHOOD TODAY!" with various subheads including: "Ike May Receive Isle Bill Tonight" and "Passage Assures There'll Be Hot Time in Old Town". Included also is a photo showing legislators in celebration in Washington, D.C. (see photos).
Among other photos on the inside is a presentation of a "suggested" flag noting Hawaii's statehood, and a photo of Mickey Mantle at spring training.
A very displayable issue and great to have this landmark headline in a Hawaii newspaper. This event is celebrating its 50th anniversary.
The front section only, complete in 10 pages. There is browning and rubbing at the left margin and at the fold-line, with an archival mend to the back of the center-right margin. Typical edge tears and wear are present; still quite displayable (see images).
