January 21, 1790

CONNECTICUT COURANT, Hartford, January 21, 1790

* United States Constitution ratified by North Carolina
* President George Washington

Half of the front page is taken up with reports from: "Congress, House of Representatives" within which is a letter to the House of Representatives, signed in type by the President: G. Washington, which announces that North Carolina has ratified the Constitution: "I have directed Mr. Lear...to lay before you a copy of the adoption & ratification of the Constitution of the United States by the state of North Carolina...".

This historic report is followed by two documents from North Carolina noting the same from the N.C. Convention, one from Fayetteville reading: "...I have the honor to transmit to you the ratification & adoption of the Constitution of the United States by the said Convention in behalf of the people..." (see photos).

Page 2 has noteworthy content as well as it contains the reply of the Vice President (signed in type: John Adams)  to Washington's first state-of-the-union address, which includes his acknowledgment signed: G. Washington (see). And this is followed by the address of the House of Representatives to Washington's speech, which again is acknowledged by the President, signed: G. Washington (see).

The balance of the issue has other news of the day & various advertisements. Complete in 4 pages, various light water staining causes no loss of readability, otherwise nice.
