THE MASSACHUSETTS MAGAZINE, Boston, February, 1792* Rare 18th century American magazine
* Publisher Isaiah Thomas
Eighteenth century American magazines are very difficult to come by. Among the articles in this issue are: "Topographical Sketches of the County of Essex" which is a continued article and takes 3 1/2 pages; "On the Necessity of Caution" "On the Sleep of Plants" "Ceremony of a Persian Marriage" "On the Eccentricities of Imagination" "The Negro Cesar's Cure for Poison" "Remarks on the Milky Way" by Mr. Herschel; "The African Bow" and much more.
Near the back are "Minutes of the Proceedings of the State Legislature" and "Abstract of the Proceedings of Congress" which takes 4 1/2 pages. The "Domestick Chronicle" has news reports from Georgia, South Carolina, Virginia Western Territory, North Carolina and most other states. The report from Massachusetts includes: "The birth day of the President of the United States was celebrated in Boston on the 21st of February. The ringing of bells, the firing of cannon..." with a bit more (see).
A very nice issue published by the famed printer Isaiah Thomas. Full title/index page, measures 5 by 8 inches, complete in 72 pages. Scattered foxing otherwise in very nice condition.
