THE LOUISVILLE DAILY JOURNAL, Louisville, Kentucky, October 31, 1861
* Rare Civil War title
* Post Yankee capture - Pre Confederate city
Kentucky was one of the border states which shared allegiance depending on what the date was and in which town you were in. Officially Louisville was a Confederate city from April through mid-September of 1861. This issue was published not long after Yankee occupation.
The ftpg. includes: "Declaration of Southern Independence" which takes over an entire column. Other news items and many ads on the front page.
Page 2 has: "The Confederates--The Indians--The 'Yankee Scalpers'..." with more (see), and another stack of war-related heads including: "Expedition Into Kentucky--Flag of Truce to Columbus--Reported Capture of 50 Rebel Cavalry at Eddyville, Ky." and more (see).
Page 3 has more war-related items, plus many ads as well.
Four pages, large folio size, cleanly loose at the spine, nice condition. A rare title from this period.
Large folio size, some light damp staining, some minor tears at margins. Uncommon to find Kentucky newspapers from the Civil War!
