December 30, 1845

NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, D.C., December 30, 1845

* Texas becomes a state - joins the Union
* From our nation's capital

The back page has historic content concerning Texas including a report dated Dec. 27 from the "House of Representatives" concerning the debate on it being admitted to the Union, which it finally was.

The discussion takes over half a column (see photos) and concludes with: "...Whereupon the bill extending the laws of the United States over the State of Texas was forthwith read a third time and passed (It needs but the Presidential signature to become a law.)"

History tells us that Texas officially became a state on December 29, likely the date the bill was signed by the President. Terrific to have this report in a Washington, D.C. newspaper!

Four pages, very nice condition.
