INDEPENDENT CHRONICLE, from Boston, Massachusetts, dated August 17, 1809 (Please note: that the date on the issue contains a typo August 17, 1089 but the correct date is also confirmed on the inside of the issue.) Page 2 has "A Proclamation" issued by the President of the United States reinstating the Non-Intercourse Act, which prohibited any trade with England and France because of the ongoing harassment of neutral shipping. This was done due to the annulment of the Erskine Agreement by the British. The Proclamation is signed in type: James Madison. The frontpage also includes three "Acts", including one for "Making an appropriation to finish and furnish the Senate Chamber...", each signed in type: James Madison.
This is complete in four pages measuring approximately 13 x 20 inches and is somewhat irregular at the spine. The frontpage text "tilts" to the right a bit, second leaf has an archival mend to an irregular tear. See photos for details.
