SCRIBNER'S MONTHLY, (New York), October, 1875

John Wesley Powell's name is synonymous with the Grand Canyon as it was he who lead the earliest explorations of that then "unexplored" portion of America and documented the Native Americans of the region and the geological formations for proper mapping, etc.

This is an excellent issue containing an 18 page article titled: "An Overland Trip To The Grand Canon, by Major J.W. Powell", which gives an excellent diary of his explorations of the region in 1871-2, a follow-up to his original trip to the Grand Canyon region in 1869. This lengthy & detailed article (see photos for portions) includes a halfpg. map of: "The Grand Canon of the Colorado, showing Route Traveled by Major Powell" plus an additional nine prints of the geography and the native Indians of the region.

A great issue with a contemporary account of this important exploring expedition to the West. The issue is complete in 130 pages, disbound without original wrappers (typical), measures 6 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches, minor damage & loss to a bottom corner of the last 2 leaves, & very light, even foxing.
