THE NEW YORK TIMES, New York, NY, July 20, 1920
* Babe Ruth sets another home run record (season)
* In a New York City paper.
This 24 page newspaper has one column headlines on page 8 that include: "BABE SETS RECORD, THEN ADDS ANOTHER", "Super-Slugger Hits Twice for Circuit While Yanks Split with White Sox" and more with smaller subheads and box scores. Tells of Babe Ruth breaking the single season home run record that was also held by him. Notice the date of this issue being around midway through the season. This was when Babe Ruth was emerging into a superstar home run hitter especially with two months to go in the season. He would end the season with 54 homers.
Great to have in this famous NYC title. Usual browning and little close cut at the margins with little wear, minor text loss, otherwise good.
wikipedia notes: After moving to the Yankees, Ruth's transition from a pitcher to a power-hitting outfielder was complete. In his fifteen year Yankee career, consisting of over 2,000 games, Ruth re-wrote the record books in terms of his hitting achievements—but made only 5 widely-scattered token appearances on the mound, almost incidentally compiling a perfect 5–0 record as a Yankee pitcher.
Babe Ruth in 1921, arguably his finest season
In 1920, his first year with the Yankees, Ruth hit 54 home runs and batted .376. His .847 slugging average is a Major League record. Aside from the Yankees, only the Philadelphia Phillies managed to hit more home runs as a team than Ruth did as an individual, slugging 64 in hitter-friendly Baker Bowl.
