THE ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, Georgia, October 27, 1918
* SS Princess Sophia sinking
* Alaskan liner - Vanderbilt Reef
This 30+ page newspaper has a two column headline on the front page: "343 Persons on Board, Ship Princess Sophia Goes to Sea's Bottom" with subheads. (see)
Tells of the sinking of the SS Princess Sophia in Lynn Canal near Juneau Alaska.
Other news of the day. Light browning with address label in unrelated headline and minor margin wear, otherwise good. Should be handled with care.
wikipedia notes: The SS Princess Sophia was a steel-built coastal passenger liner that operated on the coastal waters of British Columbia, Canada and southeast Alaska, United States, through the Inside Passage. On 25 October 1918, the Sophia sank with the loss of all aboard after grounding on Vanderbilt Reef in Lynn Canal near Juneau, Alaska. With 343 or more people lost, the wreck of the Princess Sophia was the worst maritime accident in the history of British Columbia and Alaska. The circumstances of the wreck were controversial, as some felt that all aboard could have been saved.
