THE PENNSYLVANIA GAZETTE, Philadelphia, March 17, 1768 A nice colonial newspaper with a coat-of-arms engraving in the masthead. The entire front page is taken up with: "Proposals For Enlarging the Plan of the American Society...for Promoting Useful Knowledge..." (see).
Page 2 has various news items from Europe, and also includes: "A Proclamation" signed by the governor of Pennsylvania, John Penn (see). Much of page 3 is taken up with ads, as is all of page 4.
This newspaper was owned by Ben Franklin for many years, his name last appearing in the imprint in 1765. The name of his then partner, Davis Hall, still appears in the imprint.
Complete in 4 pages, tiny binding holes at the blank spine margin, otherwise in great condition.
