THOMAS'S MASSACHUSETTS SPY OR WORCESTER GAZETTE, October 24, 1798

* XYZ Affair
* Prelude to Quasi-War
* America - France Naval

Page 2 contains a half column letter headed: "Talleyrand's Respond to Mr. Gerry's Answer to his Letter" dated at Paris, July 22 (see). This relates intimately to the "XYZ Affair", a diplomatic event that strained relations between the United States and France. Gerry was one of three  member commission sent to France to negotiate. The other two, Pinckney & Marshall, were sent home as Talleyrand--the French foreign minister--refused to negotiate with them.

Complete in four pages, never bound nor trimmed, and in very nice condition.
