THE TIMES, London, England, September 24, 1888
* Jack the Ripper
* Whitechapel murders
* Mary Ann Nichols - victim
"Jack the Ripper" reports were common in the latter half of 1888, capturing the interest of people on both sides of the Atlantic as evidenced by the reports in many newspapers in the United States. It was the international "sensation" of the era, and a case which was never conclusively solved. Not surprisingly, issues of the respected "Times" newspaper from London are the most sought after, being the primary source for Jack the Ripper reports.
Page three has an uncommonly lengthy & detailed article concerning the Jack the Ripper case, taking over a full column. It has a prefacing comment: "...coroner for the South Easter Division...resumed his adjourned inquiry at the Working Lads' Institute, Whitechapel road, respecting the death of Mary Ann Nichols, who was found brutally murdered in Buck's row, Whitechapel...". She was one of the victims of Jack the Ripper. The text has considerable detail on the inquiry. One bit include: "...she was only just dead, if life were really extinct. Paul says he felt a slight movement of her breast...there was not a trace of blood anywhere except at the spot where her neck was lying..." with much, much more (see).
Complete in 16 pages, an archival mend across the central fold of each leaf is quite discrete; almost unnoticeable. Minor chipping at the margins and an ink stain near the bottom of the front page. Generally in very nice condition..
