April 28, 1865

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 28, 1865  This issue reports one of the more notable events in the Lincoln assassination saga, the finding and killing of Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth.
The first column heads on the front page proclaim: "BOOTH KILLED" "Full Account of the Pursuit and its Result" "He is Traced into St. Mary's County, Maryland" "Harrold and Booth Discovered in a Barn" "Booth Declares He Will not be Taken Alive" "The Barn Set on Fire to Force Them Out" "Sergt. Boston Corbett Fires at Booth" "He is Shot Through the Neck and Dies in Three Hours" "His Body and Harrold Brought to Washington" (see). The text is quite detailed, and takes--along with a few other related reports--the entire front page, making this one of the best issues to have on the finding of Booth.
Complete in 8 pages, slightly irregular at the bottom margin, evenly toned throughout, some minor margin tears
A very significant report in a desirable title.
