THE NEWS SCIMITAR, Memphis, Tennessee, May 7, 1915  The banner headline above the masthead provides an all too optimistic report: "LUSITANIA PASSENGERS SAFE" with another smaller banner head: "Report Rescue Work May Save All Of 1253 Aboard". But sadly 1198 would ultimately die in the tragedy.
The first "Bulletin" from London notes: "The Cunard Company has definitely ascertained that the lives of the passengers and the crew of the Lusitania have been saved. Several boat loads of survivors of the Lusitania are now being towed to Kandale by a Greek steamer." Further reports note that the ship sank in 21 minutes following a torpedo attack by a German submarine.
A very early report with an "error" headline, as the next day's issue would provide a more accurate account. Other news of the day and advertisements are within.
The complete newspaper, close-trimmed at the spine margin, typical browning with some fragility (should be handled carefully).
