April 23, 1918

THE NEW YORK TIMES, April 23, 1918.

* Manfred Von Richthofen killed
* The Red Baron (1st report)
* World War I

The front page has some nice banner headlines on World War I, but the significant report is among the many one column headlines, which read: "FOE'S GREATEST ACE KILLED" ,"Baron von Richthofen Shot Down After 80th Victory Had Been Claimed for Him", "BURIED WITH ALL HONORS", "Met His Death in Wild Melee of 50 Airplanes Over the British Lines".

Further down the column the text includes: "In the Royal Air Service yesterday great interest was aroused by the news that Baron von Richthofen, the most famous German air fighter after the death of Immelmann, had been killed & brought down in the British lines..." with the report carrying over to page 2.

A significant World War I report, and great to have it on the front page of this famous & desirable newspaper.

Other news of the day throughout including various advertisements. Light browning, light margin wear, actually in good condition , especially from the period.
