THE YANKEE, Boston, October 28, 1814 The most intriguing feature of this issue is the War of 1812 map which dominates page 3, headed: "Map of the Lakes, and N. Western Territory" and beneath which is "Don't Give Up The Soil. England Demands of us Two Hundred & Twenty Millions of Acres!" and a lengthy related article. This map shows Ohio, Indiana Territory, Illinois Territory & portions of present-day Michigan & Wisconsin, labeled "North Western Territory". As any collector knows maps in newspapers of this era were almost never found.
Not surprisingly there is much more on the War of 1812 with articles headed: "From Sackett's Harbour" "Niagara Frontier" "Late from New Orleans" "Latest from the U.S. Sloop of War Peacock" "From the Army" "Loss of a Gun-Boat" "Latest From England & Halifax" & more.
