FREDERICK DOUGLASS' PAPER, Rochester, New York, March 17, 1854 We are pleased to offer this exceedingly rare--and highly desirable--newspaper by the famed Frederick Douglass. This weekly title is the continuation of his newspaper "North Star" which began in 1847.
This is just the third issue of this title we have had in over ten years, the previous issue having been sold to The Newseum.
Among the various articles in this issue are those headed: "Western Christian Advocate--Methodist Slave-Catching" "An Incident Among the Freed Men of Jamaica" "Slavery Agitation" "Convention of Colored Men" "Emancipated Slaves" "Jefferson On Slavery" "The Word 'White' " "The Crisis--What can We Do?" "Three Great Falsehoods" "Anti-Slavery Convention, Cincinnati, Ohio" "Pennsylvania Slave Hunting" "The Colored People of Chemung Co. In Council" "Footprints Of Slavery" & other items. The back page also has a lengthy & detailed notice headed: "Call For A National Emigration Convention of Colored Men" to be held in Cleveland, Ohio (see).
This complete, four page issue was never bound nor trimmed, has various light foxing throughout but nothing disfigurative. There is a small piece from the spine margin which affects a portion of just 3 words on pg. 2, nothing on pg. 1. Some very small & discrete archival mends inside which are almost unnoticeable.
A very fine and rare opportunity for one of the more sought-after titles of the 19th century.
