MIDDLESEX GAZETTE, Middletown, Connecticut, September 19, 1811 The front page of the issue contains a report of the observation of the recent comet, which includes the latitude readings of the sighting. It also states that "The tail appears to separate into two branches, and is distinguishable through an extent of 7 or 8 degrees in length and 3 in breadth."
Under the "War" heading is an editorial from "A Watchman" who believes that the military is not doing the proper protection of New York "...Is it possible that the enemy is better acquainted with the state of defence in our country, than the department particularly entrusted with that branch of public duty?..." A report of a Bank Robbery in Charleston along with other news and advertisements.
This is complete in four pages, with several small binding holes along the left spine, some scattered lite foxing, untrimmed, otherwise in nice condition.
