Haymarket Square riot...
Item # 587581
May 07, 1886
SALEM EVENING NEWS, Massachusetts, May 7, 1886
* Haymarket Square riot
* Chicago, Illinois
* Anarchy - Anarchists
The top of the front page has nice reports on the Haymarket Square riot in Chicago, with column heads: "Convulsed Chicago", "A Loud-Talking Fellow Suddenly Squelched", "The Socialists' Idea of Freedom", "What a Reporter Learned by Mingling in a Crowd" (see photos).
What started as a peaceful rally in support of striking workers turned quickly to tragedy as an unknown person threw a bomb into the police, striking fear across the country that anarchist groups were exercising attempts to overthrown all governments.
Four pages, light browning, otherwise nice. Should be handled with care.
