THE BOSTON HERALD, April 10, 1865 The top of page 2 has great column headlines announcing the formal surrender of Robert E. Lee to Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, essentially ending the Civil War. The heads include: "GREAT ! GRAND ! " "GLORIOUS ! " "The Death Blow of the Rebellion! " "SURRENDER of GENERAL LEE and His ENTIRE ARMY ! " with other smaller subheads. Included within the text are the several final dispatches between Grant & Lee with the details of the surrender (see). The back page has some reports on the closing moments of the Civil War as well.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, a few very minor archival mends to the front page, a little fold creasing, generally in nice condition.
