THE NEW YORK TIMES, March 22, 1919
* Babe Ruth signs final contract with Boston
* Prelude to the trade with New York Yankees
* Major league baseball
The sports section (page 16) has one column headlines that read: "BABE RUTH FINALLY SIGNS WITH BOSTON" and "Red Sox Slugger Accepts Contract Said to Call for $27,000 for Three Years". See photos for text here. Interesting that he signed a three year deal when he would be traded to the New York Yankees the following year. He had argued for more money with Boston's management. Was this a prelude to the most famous trade in baseball history? A nice item on his final year with the Red Sox. Nice to have in this famous NYC title.
Other news, sports and various advertisements of the day throughout. Complete in 24 pages, a few small library stamps in the masthead, very minor margin wear, otherwise in nice condition.
