Page 3 has an historic report of the very first balloon crossing of the English Channel, done by famed balloonist Jean Blanchard. It notes in part: "Blanchard was two hours & a half in the air; two hours of which he was upon the sea..." with more.
Great to have this report in a British newspaper.
