September 11, 1889

THE WHEELING INTELLIGENCER, West Virginia, Sept. 11, 1889

* Jack the Ripper
* Whitechapel murders

The top of the first column on the front page has some of the beset headlines we've seen on Jack The Ripper, including: "THE NINTH" "Jack The Ripper's Crimes" "He Adds One More to the List of Whitechapel Victims' "A Woman Is Mutilated" "And Dismembered by the Fiend, Who Must Kill Six More" with more heads (see). This is a very nice report as it recounts the earlier victims of Jack The Ripper, but is preceded by this latest victim: "At 5:30 o'clock this morning a policeman found the body of a fallen woman lying at the corner of a railway arch on the Cable Street, White Chapel...that the head and legs had been cut off & carried away & the stomach ripped open & the intestines lying on the ground..." with more (see). See the hyperlink which notes the "Pinchin St. Murder" of Sept. 10, 1889 as among the "Alleged Ripper Victims". Pinchin St. is just one block from Cable St. noted in the article.
Complete in 4 pages, large folio size, some browning and archival mending at a fold in the last column which does not impact the key text. Otherwise in good condition. While this issue is not pulpish as is typical for the period, it does need to be handled with care.
