THE WHEELING INTELLIGENCER, West Virginia, April 8, 1889 Over 2 columns on the front page are taken up with some of the most detailed coverage we have seen in a period newspaper concerning the legendary Hatfield-McCoy feud at the border of Kentucky & West Virginia. Perhaps it is not surprising to find such lengthy content in a newspaper from West Virginia.
The top of the front page has one column heads: "CONFESSION" "Ellison Hatfield's Story" "Of the Part He Took in the Famous Hatfield-McCoy Feud" "The Murders & Outrages in whcih He Participated" "His Voluntary Statements' "To the State's Attorney in Pike County, Kentucky, Jail" "The Intelligencer Correspondent Secures a Copy of the Document--The Principal Feature of It--How Governor Wilson Was Deceived" (see).
The article has some very compelling content and takes close to two columns on the front page. There are several subheads which include: "Hatfield's Confession" "A Terrible Oath" "Beating Helpless Women" "Murder of Jeff M'Coy" "Murder of Elifiri M'Coy" "The Murders" & "Deceiving Gov. Wilson".
Complete in four pages, large folio size, and in very nice, clean condition.
