December 05, 1862

WESTERN SENTINEL, Winston, North Carolina, Dec. 5, 1862

* Rare Confederate title

This is a very rare title from the Confederacy. According to Brigham only four institutions in the United States have any holdings of this title from the Civil War, most just a few scattered issues. The American Antiquarian Society has no issues recorded from this era.
Among the front page items are: "Col. W.W. Kirkland, late Col. 32st. N. C. Regiment" "Confederate Finances" "Volunteer Troops" "Transportation & Telegraph Companies" "Overseers on Plantations" and other items. Inside pages have more on the war including: "Capture of Another Yankee Gunboat" "From New River--Federal gunboat Captured" "Our Military Defences" "Conservative Lying" and other items. There is also an ad headed: "A Negro Woman For Sale" (see photos).
Four pages, very nice condition.
