* Slaves - slavery
The top of page 5 has: "Exciting Fugitive Case In Troy - Arrest of a Virginia Runaway - His Release and Escape Through the Efforts of a Mob". This is the case of fugitive slave Charles Nalle (see hyperlink for more on him).
Note: Although she is not mentioned by name, Charles was rescued by Harriet Tubman.
Page 2 of the "Supplement" issue which is attached has: "The Tenure by Which Slaves are Held" part of which notes: "...You very properly rebuke the South...for endeavoring to place their slaves, so-called, in the false position of property, & upon the same political footing with 'lands, horses, mules and hogs.' It must be apparent even to the South that they do not hold the slave by such political constitutional right, nor can they find any plausible argument to place them on that footing..." with much more interesting reading (see).
Complete in 12 pages, very nice condition.
