This is the famous anti-slavery newspaper by famed abolitionist publisher William Lloyd Garrison. The masthead features two engravings, one of a slave auction and the other showing slaves being emancipated (see).
This issue has much discussion & reporting concerning the Emancipation Proclamation which had just become official as of January 1. The ftpg. has: "Refuge of Oppression--One Honest Abolitionist" "the Two Proclamation" the latter beginning: "Jeff. Davis has rather the advantage of President Lincoln in regard to the negroes; for hanging slaves is certainly more warlike than freeing them..." (see). Also on the ftpg: "Proclamation of President Lincoln" "Freedom of The Slaves" and "The Policy of A Negro Army For the North".
More great content on the inside as well, with: "The Proclamation, How To Make It Efficient" which takes over half of the page. Also: "Proclamation Day in Boston" and "General Order of Gov. Andrew on the President's Proclamation".
The back page has some interesting content as well, including over a full column giving the: "Chronology Of The War" noting all the significant events by date (see for portions). Also the: "Farewell of Gen. Butler to His Troops".
Four pages, slightly irregular at the blank spine, nice condition.
