March 17, 1832

SALEM OBSERVER, Massachusetts, March 17, 1832

* Samuel Worcester
* Cherokee Indians
* Georgia

All of page 2 and almost half of page 3 are taken up with  "The Cherokee Case" being the: "Opinion of the Supreme Court, delivered by Mr. Chief Justice Marshall, January Term, 1832. Samuel A. Worcester vs. The State of Georgia".
This was a very historic Supreme Court case, more commonly referred to as Worcester vs. Georgia, in which the Court vacated the conviction of Samuel Worcester and held that the Georgia statute that prohibited non-Indians from being present on Indian lands without a license from the state was unconstitutional (see hyperlink for details). The photos show only the beginning & end.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, nice condition.
