THE SALEM GAZETTE, Massachusetts, Feb. 12, 1847 Almost half of the front page is taken up with: "Part Four of Dombey & Son, by Charles Dickens". Page 2 has over half a column with an editorial on the: "Famine In Ireland" beginning: "By the foreign news...it will be seen that the accounts of the destitution in Ireland grow even more appalling..." (see). This was the Irish Potato Famine which cost the lives of 1 million and another 1 million emigrated, dropping the population of the island by more than 20%. Also on pg. 2 is the article referenced in the editorial: "Seven Days Later From Europe" "Great Distress in Ireland--Deaths by Starvation...". Also reports from the Mexican War.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, bit irregular at blank margins, very nice condition.
