SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN, New York, June 2, 1849

* Early Abraham Lincoln patent
* Before his popularity
* Buoyancy device

A fascinating and very early item about Abraham Lincoln. In 1849 Lincoln was awarded a patent for a "lifting vessel" by the United States Patent Office. See the hyperlink for more on Lincoln's patent, which although never being manufactured, made him the only U.S. President to receive a patent.
The record of this patent being granted appears on an inside page under the "List Of Patents Issued From The United States Patent Office, For The week ending May 22, 1849." The listing reads, in full: "To A. Lincoln of Springfield, Ills., for improved method of lifting vessels over shoals. Patented May 22, 1849" (see) A terrific and obscure tidbit about Lincoln well before he became famous.
Complete in 8 pages, very minor foxing, nice condition.
