LOS ANGELES TIMES--EXTRA, Aug. 14, 1965 A terrific front page on this terrible chapter in the history of Los Angeles. Reporting on the Watts Riots the two-line banner headline notes: "EIGHT MEN SLAIN; GUARD MOVES IN" with related subheads. There is also a large front page photo of the: "Warlike scene..." (see). The Watts Riots was a race riot that took place in the Watts neighborhood of Los Angeles from August 11 to 17, 1965. The six-day unrest resulted in 34 deaths, 1,032 injuries, 3,438 arrests, and over $40 million in property damage. It was the most severe riot in the city's history until the Los Angeles riots of 1992.
