THE BOSTON GAZETTE & COUNTRY JOURNAL, Jan. 18, 1768 Over half of the front page is taken up with "Letter VI" of the very famous series of twelve letters by John Dickinson, headed: "Letters From a Farmer in Pennsylvania, to the Inhabitants of the British Colonies". (See this hyperlink for full text of this letter.) Dickinson was a Pennsylvania attorney & legislator who wrote the series of letters--which later appeared in pamphlet form in the other colonies & in England--to furnish a constitutional basis for the widespread colonial opposition to the English trade acts. While Dickinson agreed that England had the legal power to regulate colonial trade, he denied the parliamentary authority to impose taxes to raise revenues from colonial sources. This series of letters proved an immensely influential force in shaping colonial opinion.
Inside has other American content as well including "L___ C___m's Speech on the Declaratory Bill of the Sovereignty of Great Britain over the Colonies".
Four pages, much wear at the several folds including some loss at the fold junctures, with some rubbing at the folds as well. Period writing above the masthead & in some other margins. A worn issue, yet an opportunity for significant content at a much reduced price.
